Faded Echoes is an AU TVD-verse that kicks off after Mid Season 3 with a whole new twist. In the small town of Mystic Falls, go beyond what TVD offers and submerge into Original Plots or Character Driven Plots. FE has more than just the normal Witches, Vampires and Werewolves, but gives you the opportunity to create Shifters or Hybrids as well.
We stray after the Homecoming episode in Season 3 of Vampire Diaries and provide players a place to take the story how THEY want to, using the TVD setting as the foundation to develop as YOU like, encouraging Original Characters OR Canons. Don't know the show? No problem. You just need the setting!
The Original Families, Vampire and Werewolves, are back in town after the Mikaelson family was released by Tatia Petrova, giving us a whole new set up then the show.

A were-animal shifting from their human form into their animal form is effortless. There is absolutely no pain when shifting into their animal form. Keep in mind that when they shift into their animal form, their clothes do not magically disappear and magically reappear on them. If they shift from their human form into an elephant, their clothes will tear into shreds and when they turn back into their human form, they will be completely naked. They should take caution as to where they shift, especially if they try to turn into their animal in the middle of the city. You don’t see wild buffalo’s or antelope’s running around New York City, so they should be mindful of their surroundings.
Were-animals are basically humans who can turn into ONE animal. They can only EVER turn into ONE animal and there are NO hybrids in were-animals. If one parent is a were-tiger and the other parent is a witch, there is a 50/50 chance that the child will be either or. They cannot be both. At all. If one parent is a were-tiger and the other is a were-panda, there is no such thing as a were-panger(panda/tiger). They only take after ONE of their parents. No matter what either of their parents are. When pregnant, a mother were-animal cannot shift into her animal form or she will lose the baby. A tiger doesn’t have the capabilities to support a human fetus.
Just like werewolves and humans, were-animals have a NORMAL lifespan. They have a human lifespan that usually doesn’t surpass 80-100 years old. They age, they wrinkle, and they can die a natural death with old age. Just like humans, wereanimals can die in ANY way. If they get hit by a car, they will likely heal before their organs shut down. They are immune to most diseases because of this enhanced healing ability. However, if were-animals are stabbed in the heart they will die. If their limbs are removed, the limbs will not magically grow back (unless you’re a were-lizard and capable of regrowing limbs). In order to repair your missing limb, you must reattach the limb before it heals (probably take about 24-48 hours to heal up the area of the wound entirely) and hope that the limb reattaches itself to the rest of the body.
Were-animals CANNOT be turned into hybrids. Hybrids are a new species, so this information is not readily available. If a were-animal is given a few drops of vampire/hybrid blood, they can become ill but their advanced healing will help them get better. If they are given more than a few drops of vampire/hybrid blood, they can become violently ill and die. Too much of their blood is fatal to were-animals, much like a werewolf/hybrid bite to a vampire. If a were-animal dies with the foreign blood in their system, they will come back briefly, only to bleed through their eyes and die like if werewolves are given vampire blood and died with it in their system. Were-animals CANNOT be turned into hybrids, even by consuming the blood of the doppelganger. They are an ENTIRELY different species than the werewolves, even if there are few similarities.
For shifter families: A mother with one shift has a 50% chance of giving that shift to their offspring. A father of one shift has a 50% chance of giving that shift to their offspring. Therefore, if one parent is a shifter, the offspring have a 50% chance of getting that particular shift. If both parents are shifters of two different species, they have 50% chance of getting their mother's shift and 50% chance they will get their father's shift. If their parents are of the same shift (which would likely include incest because there is only ONE shifter type PER family), they have a 100% chance they will get that same shift. For a shifter to have the same shift as another character on the site, they will have to be related some how, some way. Cousins, second cousins, distant relations, that sort of thing. There are were-Bengal tigers and were-Siberian tigers, or African Lions and White Lions, but please TRY to be original. If you already see a were-tiger, think of something different outside of the wild cat family Again, this is passed down through genes, but over time, blood mixes and you get a whole mess of different shifts threading into each other. If you would like to take a shift that has already been taken, you MUST CONTACT the person who has the shift originally. If they agree to allowing another shifter with that same shift, you may make that character.
All wereanimals have increased healing. They’ll heal from a knife wound within minutes. The worse the injury, the longer it takes. Usually this takes no longer than a day to heal, even from broken bones.
All wereanimals can shift at will and the full moon does not affect them at all. There are special circumstances where a witch may curse an individual, but these cases are EXTREMELY rare and should be very, very well thought out and thoroughly explained.
Speed, strength, and senses are heightened to above normal. They are naturally just slightly faster and stronger than humans. Senses include being able to sniff out other species of supernaturals (except witches smell like humans, so they can’t smell witches out), though this is a characteristic and skill that must be practiced and learned.
All were-animals are more durable and can endure more pain. Their bones dont break quite as easily and their immune systems are above average.
Most were-animals have an ability based on what the animal they can shift into can do, see below for tips & tricks. For example, a bear would have super strength (usually enough strength to rival a vampire), a rabbit/cheetah might have super speed (usually quick enough to keep up with vampires), a scorpion might have paralysis poison, and an elephant shifter may have the ability to remember every detail of their life after reaching puberty and their gene is activated.
Since they're not human, they obviously cannot be compelled by vampires after they've reached puberty.
Wolfsbane: When ingested, wolfsbane causes a wereanimal to become severely weak and feverish. If a wereanimals skin is exposed to wolfsbane it can result in burning them and making them weaker when in contact with large amounts. It’s essentially like acid on the skin of a human. The pain can be devastatingly crippling.
Device: Invented by Jonathan Gilbert (Enchanted by Emily Bennett), the Device was a weapon designed to emit a high-frequency noise that could only be heard by vampires, werewolves, and were-animals.
Magic: Witches are able to curse and inflict supernaturals aneurysms that cause the blood vessels of were-animal to explode.
Broken Neck: By breaking a were-animal's neck, it results in instant death.
Heart Extraction: If the heart of a were-animal is removed , it will cause instant death.
Keep in mind, they’ve basically like humans with the ability to shift into animals. They CAN die in normal, human ways as well, but it’s very difficult for that to happen because of their durability and healing aspects.
Lore – Myths, folklore, and tales are a good way to see how other’s see the animals, and they have to be based in something right? Googling just straight up “Animal Lore” can bring up a lot of searches though. A good way to narrow it down is to look at the cultures in that area and add it in. For example if you’re looking for Polar Bear lore instead of googling “Polar Bear Lore” I would Google “Inuit Polar Bear Lore”. Also keep in mind that many animals have multiple names! Example an African Wild Dog is also known as an African Painted Dog or Cape hunting Dog, this will help you figure out if the species is taken as well. Play around with it a bit and see what works best!
Be creative - This is the wonderful thing about RPing! You can be creative and usually one is encouraged to be! Remember to look into the little things and ask how a human could use them. An Elephant is strong, they are smart and have good memories, everyone knows this. Did you know they can move silently though? A lot of marine animals have water proof coats that could play into their human forms. Desert animals could go without water. The power doesn’t have to be huge to be cool!
Bad is okay – not all traits have to be good. Poor eyesight, sensitivity, quick tempers ECT are all common issues in the animal world. Reproductive issues are another big one, all of which can carry over to a human. Life isn’t all about sunshine, rainbows and unicorns, sometimes stuff happens and sometimes it’s bad.
Normal is okay too – A shifter can already turn into an animal at will, without pain. It’s okay if that’s all it can do. That’s still pretty badass if you think about it.
Its not all mammals and birds – there are a number of bugs, reptiles, fish and amphibians as well to choose from as well. They may not be flashy and cuddly, but there are some neat ones out there. Ants can lift up to 100 times their body weight and pound for pound are the strongest animals. Spider silk is one of the strongest building materials by weight! Ladybugs are considered lucky, and who wouldn’t want a walking good luck charm?
Other Notes -Keep in mind that some abilities may have to be passed by admins prior to being used, and sources and proof of their existence may be required from you, so links to documentation or where you found the lore may asked to be provided. Also like all other creatures’ shifters can continue to learn and grow as they age. So just because you haven’t settled on a power yet, doesn’t mean something can be discovered, learned and developed over time!
