In order to be a witch/warlock, it must be passed down through your family. However, just because you’re a witch, it doesn’t mean that your mother/father has to be one. Witches have a funny way of skipping generations or skipping people in the family. Your character could be a witch, but their siblings might not be. Your character’s great great grandmother could be the last witch in the family and all of a sudden, your character is blessed with the power also. Discovering the powers of being a witch happen sporadically and at different times for every witch. Some witches know at a young age. Others witches it happens when their hormones go crazy. Some people it may lay dormant most of their lives until some magic springs out in a life or death situation.
Witches were the first supernatural beings in the history of time. It is because of witches that werewolves were created, because of witches that beings such as doppelgangers were created, and also because vampires were created. Witches work with nature, for the most part, to keep balance in the world. They consider themselves Servants of Nature and those who don’t, usually have their power source from something else. They do not worship the devil and are not spawned from demons. Most just want to keep the balance. Some have prejudice towards the other supernatural monsters that their ancestors have created, but not all witches hate all other supernatural beings.
There are different types of magic. Most magic and spells require a witch to speak the spell that is usually from a grimoire. A grimoire is a book that is passed along throughout a witch’s family that has all of the spells they’ve ever used in it. Some of these books are old and falling apart, others are kept in better condition. A witch can specialize in one form of magic over the other, like more fluently with fire or water, or more fluently in crafting charms, or telekinesis. Using magic has its price though and takes energy the more magic a witch uses. No witch is all powerful and sometimes, magic has consequences and may make a witch bleed or faint or even speed up the aging process if they use too much. If they specialize in something, it may require less energy because they’ve built an endurance in that specific technique.
Since they're not human, they obviously cannot be compelled by vampires after they've reached puberty.
Witches that use magic against human beings is considered a disturbance of nature, sometimes, acts such as that may have adverse affects against the witch. There can and should be consequences for abuses such as these.

Traditional Magic is the most common form of witchcraft among modern-day witches. Traditional Magic draws energy from the forces of nature and may be used however the witch sees fit. Although Traditional Magic is very popular among the witchcraft community, it also very exhausting. Due to the fact the witch is exerting their own energy, the witch may experience symptoms of dizziness, fatigue, and minor nose bleeds. Bonnie Bennett explained the limits of this power to Jeremy Gilbert, saying that if she pushed too hard, it would push back. Most witches would have this magic, please keep that in mind when creating a witch.
Spirit Magic is another popular form of magic that draws on the energy of Higher Powers, specifically powerful dead witches who remain on the Other Side. Unlike other forms of magic, a witch can only use Spirit Magic however the spirits see fit. If a witch abuses the magic bestowed upon them, the spirits may break the connection, preventing the witch from harnessing their power. Bonnie Bennett once channeled the energy of one hundred dead witches in her attempt to kill Klaus. However, after she used the power to resurrect her dead boyfriend, the spirits declined Bonnie from further channeling them, as they viewed resurrection spells as a violation against nature.
Dark Dark Magic (Black Magic) is a form of sorcery that draws on malevolent powers, and may be used for negative purposes (e.g. to cause destruction or misfortune, to injure or kill, or for the profit of oneself rather than for the benefit of others.) In popular usage, the term "dark magic" is often used to describe any form of magic that disobeys the laws of nature.
Expression is a form of extremely dark and powerful magic that draws on malicious powers that are so evil it would supposedly demolish the world if it were ever called into existence. The history of expression remains unknown. However, according to a witch named Nandi, the forces of expression are considered so powerful that many witches deny it as magic, for it expands beyond the limitations of witchcraft. Expression itself isn't dark magic, it depends upon the user of the power to determine the nature. This magic is rare, very very rare and requires great sacrifice. It must be approved by an admin before creating a witch with this magic.
